One day, perhaps yesterday, and perhaps years ago, you lost someone important to you. They were someone that you shared your soul with. For you, maybe this was a separation after a long relationship. Maybe it was a parent who raised you, or a close friend that you slowly grew apart from.
When you think about this person now, it hurts. Moments you spend alone now were moments you would've spent together, and it's hard not to feel their absence like a physical ache. But you do cherish all the beautiful moments you shared. While there's grief, there is no regret. You'd experience it all with them a second time, even knowing how the story ends.
One day, perhaps tomorrow, and perhaps years later, you will meet someone important to you. It'll be someone that you share your soul with. For you, maybe this will be a new close friend. Maybe it’ll be a newly kindled relationship, or a child that will teach you to see the world through fresh, wondering eyes.
When you think about this person now, it's reassuring. Moments you spend alone now are just the stories you're preparing to tell them. It’s as if they’re here now, a gentle presence just beyond the present moment. Though you are alone, there is no loneliness; when you first meet, it’ll be as though you’re sharing these moments for the second time.
And so I ask this of you. When you’re feeling low, draw strength from both the past and the future. There's people supporting you either way: those who loved you, and those who will.
